Good afternoon everyone,

We have finalized some much needed updates for the Social Media policy. I
would like to thank everyone who provided feedback to me over the last
several months, as well as the members of my team who helped with the
process.

My sincerest wishes that everyone stay staff in these times.

———————————————————————————————————————–

One important goal of the Mind’s Eye Society is to create physical and
virtual social spaces that are safe from unwelcome conduct or bullying for
all members. An important piece of this endeavor comes from our Code of
Conduct which applies not only to in person interactions between members
but online engagements as well. While social media can be used to greatly
improve and enrich our club, it can also be used for direct or indirect
efforts to purposefully harm or affect members in a negative fashion,
especially considering the potential visibility and reach this unique
medium provides.

It is with these challenges in mind that the MES recognizes three major
categories of social media along with their related policies:

 1)     MES owned social media such as www.mindseyesociety.org, MES Wikis,
and other web based mediums owned or operated by the Mind’s Eye Society, and
content produced by members and officers for club activities.

   –

The Code of Conduct applies to any written or electronic mediums owned
or operated by the Mind’s Eye Society.
   –

Publication of content produced by members and officers for club
activities should not be published without the written consent of all
parties involved in the creation of those materials.

2)     Member owned and/or created media related to the MES such as player
created Wikis, Facebook Groups, Lineage specific Discord servers etc.

   –

The Code of Conduct applies to any written or electronic mediums owned
or operated by members of the Mind’s Eye Society that are dedicated for use
of club related discussions and activities.
   –

Any written or electronic correspondence in which a member places their
   name and membership number.
   –

Any medium or correspondence which is used for IC or OOC club related
subjects for which prestige, VIP, or XP are discussed or may be awarded.

 3)     Personal social media.

   –

The Code of Conduct does not apply to personal social media unless it is
used in a manner that places it into one of the categories above.

–        Example 1, Two members running an IC scene via their personal
Facebook or messaging app. Because this scene can be used as a
justification for XP or IC continuity, the Code of Conduct will apply.

–        Example 2, A member comments on the personal social media platform
of another member in which they bring up obviously club related subjects.
In this case the Code of Conduct will apply.

–        Example 3, A member makes a post specifically discussing the club,
it’s events, or other members in the context of the club. In this case the
Code of Conduct will apply.

   –

The Code of Conduct does not apply to personal social media that does
not reasonably place it into one of the above categories. However, the
Mind’s Eye Society is a social club and the conduct of its membership,
whether intentional or not, can have both positive and negative effects on
the club and its members. With that in mind, any member who is found to be
participating in or facilitating extremist political or harmful ideologies
that would bring discredit upon the Mind’s Eye Society or its members may
be under review for their fit for the club.

While we will not be actively searching nor monitoring your individual
pages, what you say can and will be held accountable per our handbook. If
you feel you need resources to resolve an issue and are not sure how to
proceed, reach out to your coordinator chain or PACT for directions. If you
would not engage in the behavior in person, then consider the same
mentality when it comes to your social media platforms. Officers at every
level, if they become aware of your behavior on social media, are able to
react to it as if that behavior was happening in person.
